Who am I? Technology, Art and Storytelling
Art vs Craft- What's the Difference?

Craft is the how- The knowledge of the techniques( technology) of making things, whether using electronics, coding, biotechnology, or oil paint.
Art is the why- a comment on the human condition- our stories, fears, and joys.

Creativity generally involves three processes:

Creativity generally involves three processes:
- Bending- an original is modified or twisted out of shape into a novel form
- Breaking- something whole is taken apart, and something new is reassembled out of the fragments
- Blending- combining two or more sources in novel ways; think Picasso's blending of African sculpture with European art, or Steve Jobs' introduction of calligraphy into the Mac computer.
Creative Coding Conversations
Daisy Model in Scratch- Matt Taylor
The Daisy Model is a visual activity that can be used in a classroom to increase diversity awareness, in a group as a team building exercise to help members get to know each other, as a visual aid for resolving a conflict, or when we talk with someone who goes abroad and encounters cultural differences. Values, worldviews, group and personal traits all coincide in the center (see image below) and shape the interaction between two individuals, or an individual and a different culture. Each petal of the daisy summarizes a key aspect of personality, which, when clicked, leads to more information or examples related to that aspect.

Storytelling and Making- Alisha Panjwani
eStorytelling and making are two of the oldest forms of self-expression. Through stories, we give meaning to our everyday experiences making sense of our world. By making physical objects, we can create tangible representations of our ideas that we can share with others. In this talk, Alisha Panjwani will share teaching experiences to cultivate creative learning by combining innovative forms of storytelling and new forms of making with novel technologies. She will present ways for engaging students in making physical representations of their personal stories using Tangible Computational Media such as paper electronics, programmable projections, and sewable circuits. Art Making
Picasso's Guernica is art of the highest degree- using oil paint and deconstructed images
to vividly communicate the fear and terror of an aerial bombing during the Spanish Civil War

Despacito- the most streamed video in history- uses music and video technology to communicate a message of romance, community, and joy, bending time and space.
Even computer-generated images- in Pixar movies such as Inside Out- can have powerful effects on our emotions when used as part of effective story-telling
