Computational Thinking in Sound
Adapted from the innovative UMass-Lowell course of the same name, students will learn the basics of computational thinking and computer programming through the lens of musical composition. They will:
Equipment and Materials: Computers with Scratch and Audacity; Makey-Makeys; speakers; found sound materials.

- Design and perform on an original Musical Instrument using a Makey-Makey Board
- Understand different formats for sound files, such as MP3, WAV, etc
- Learn to edit sounds using Audacity
- Record 'found sounds', and edit them into a composition using Audacity
- Create a song flowchart
- Sequence found sounds using Scratch
- Create a composition based on Major Seconds and Perfect Fifths
- Transpose songs using Scratch Lists
- Create a final composition and performance.
