Action Learning Labs

Action Learning Labs include 3 major phases:
  • Crash Courses that develop necessary technical skills for both construction and documentation
  • Design Thinking to define the problem/design parameters
  • Action Learning Lab in which the defined project is designed, constructed, tested, revised, and exhibited. Project documentation becomes part of students' online portfolios.

The relationship between the Crash Courses and the Action Learning Labs mirrors the relationship between craft(technology) and art. Craft(technology)-the Crash Courses- is the learning of technical skills- how to make or do something. Art- the Action Learning Labs- is where technical skills are applied to affect the human condition, either physically or mentally. To create art, one needs the technology skills of craft, whereas art is what gives craft its meaning.
